1100-CLEAR Series
RESIN-BASE WATER-BASE CONCRETE CURING COMPOUNDS
Provides an impermeable film which
optimizes moisture retention.
SEALTIGHT 1100-CLEAR Series Resin-Base Water-Base Concrete Curing Compounds
are ready-to-use, true water-base compounds formulated for full VOC compliance.
Technical Description
The SEALTIGHT 1100-CLEAR Series Water-Base Concrete Curing
Compounds are formulated from hydrocarbon resins and may be used on interior,
exterior, vertical and horizontal concrete surfaces. Once applied, they
form a liquid membrane that retains an optimum amount of water present
in freshly placed concrete to allow complete hydration of the cement.
NOTE: After approximately 4 weeks, the membrane begins
to chemically break down. When the curing cycle is complete, the membrane
will eventually wear off the surface. This process usually takes another
3 to 5 weeks under normal traffic and weathering conditions.
The 1100-CLEAR Series meets maximum Volatile Organic
Compound (VOC) content of 350 g/L for Concrete Curing Compounds as required
by the U.S. EPA Architectural Coatings Rule. SEALTIGHT 1100-CLEAR Series
has a substantially lower VOC content than the 350 g/L required in the
above noted rules.
Uses
The 1100-CLEAR Series has been used on both interior and
exterior applications where paint, resilient tile or resilient flooring
was applied later. Because of the wide variety of paints and adhesives
for carpeting and resilient tile in use, contact the manufacturer of the
flooring system for application approval over resin-type curing compounds.
A small test application is also recommended.
Advantages and Benefits
- When properly applied, they produce an impermeable
film which optimizes water retention
- Furnished as ready-to-use, true water-base compounds
- Produce hard, dense concrete...minimize hair-checking,
thermal cracking, dusting and other defects
- Enhance the functional capabilities of concrete
by "sealing in" the performance assets of strength and long
life
- Offer a compressive strength significantly greater
than improperly cured concrete
- Increase tensile strength for greater resistance
to cracking and surface crazing
- Improves resistance to abrasion and corrosive action
of salts and chemicals...minimizes excessive shrinkage
- Can be applied quickly and easily with conventional,
commercial spray equipment
- VOC compliant ... meets the U.S. EPA Architectural
Coatings Rule requirements.
Physical Properties
DRYING TIME: Depends on weather
conditions and coverage, but will generally dry in 1-1/2 hours. Restrict
foot traffic for at least 4 hours, 12 hours is preferable.
FLASH POINT: Greater than 210ºF (99ºC).

Application
PREPARATION: Application equipment
must be clean and free of any previously used materials.
MIXING: 1100-CLEAR Series Curing Compounds are homogenous resin-base materials,
which do not normally require mixing. However, after prolonged storage,
they should be stirred thoroughly before using. See CAUTION paragraph.
NOTE: In the container, 1100-CLEAR Series Compounds appear ivory in color,
however they dry to a clear transparent coating with a very slight amber
tint.
METHOD OF APPLICATION: Apply in a uniform film to horizontal surfaces
as soon as the surface water disappears and the surface will not be marred
by walking workmen. On vertical surfaces, apply promptly after the forms
are removed. May be applied with a typical commercial hand or power sprayer.
Use a Chapin 8005, or equivalent spray tip that produces a flow of 1/2
gallon (1.89 liters) per minute under 40 psi (.276 MPa) of pressure.
COVERAGE: Approximately 200 ft.²/gal. (4.91m²/L).
DRYING TIME: Dries in approximately 1-1/2 hours. Restrict
foot traffic for at least 4 hours, 12 hours preferably.
CLEAN-UP: Prior to drying, clean-up can be accomplished with soap and
water. Once dried, it will be necessary to clean-up with Mineral Spirits
or other suitable petroleum solvent.
Packaging
5 gallon (18.93 liter) Pails
55 gallon (208.20 liter) Drums
Specifications
ASTM C 309, Type I, Class B
AASHTO M 148, Type I, Class B
Precautions
HEALTH HAZARDS: Direct contact
may result in mild irritation. Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet for complete health and safety information.
Do not apply if concrete temperature is less than
40ºF (4ºC). DO NOT MIX WITH CURES CONTAINING SOLVENT OR ADD
SOLVENTS TO "WATER-BASE" CURES SEPARATION WILL OCCUR.
SURFACE MAY DISCOLOR DUE TO OVER-APPLICATION. KEEP FROM FREEZING. Do not
paint or apply resilient flooring over any 1100-CLEAR cured surface without
first checking the specifications and securing the approval of the paint
or resilient flooring manufacturer. If removal is necessary, use SEALTIGHT
ULTRITE DEGREASER.
