CONCRETE CURING AND SEALING COMPOUND

Specifier Notes: W.R. Meadows SEALTIGHT CS-309-1315 Acrylic Curing and Sealing Compound is a clear, transparent, ready-to-use, nonyellowing, liquid compound for use in curing and sealing exterior concrete surfaces. 

PART 1 GENERAL

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Comply with Section 01330 - Submittal Procedures.

B. Submit manufacturer's product data and application instructions.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer.

B. Storage: Store materials in a clean dry area in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Keep containers sealed until ready for use. Keep from freezing. Keep away from ignition sources.

C. Handling: Protect materials during handling and application to prevent damage or contamination.

1.6 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Do not apply curing and sealing compound when concrete temperature is below 40 degrees F (4 degrees C).

2.2 MATERIALS

A. Acrylic Concrete Curing and Sealing Compound: SEALTIGHT CS-309-1315 Acrylic Curing and Sealing Compound.

1. Compliance:

a. ASTM C 309, Type 1, Class B.

b. ASTM C 1315, Type I, Class A.

c. AASHTO M 148, Type 1, Class B.

d. Federal Spec. TT-C-800A, Type I, Class 1.

2. USDA accepted.

3. VOC Content: Meets maximum VOC content limit of 700 g/L for concrete curing and sealing compounds as required by US EPA Architectural Coatings Rule.

4. Nonyellowing.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine concrete surfaces to receive curing and sealing compound. Notify Architect if surfaces are not acceptable. Do not begin application until unacceptable conditions have been corrected.

3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION

A. Remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, and stains from existing concrete.

3.3 APPLICATION

A. Apply curing and sealing compound to exterior surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Ensure application equipment is clean and free of previously used materials.

C. Do not dilute curing and sealing compound.

D. Apply curing and sealing compound in a uniform film. Avoid puddling in low areas.

E. Apply curing and sealing compound to new concrete when surface water completely disappears and surface will not be marred by walking workmen.

F. Ensure existing concrete surfaces are clean and dry.

G. Cure concrete surfaces as specified in Section 03300.

H. May be applied to colored concrete, but mottling may occur.

I. Do not apply during high temperature conditions in direct sunlight.

J. Do not apply to concrete exposed to excessive moisture.

K. Do not use on brick, stone, masonry, and slate which are not uniform in porosity or have a nonporous surface.

3.4 PROTECTION

A. Protect horizontal surfaces from foot traffic for a minimum of 12 hours after application of curing and sealing compound.
