PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Surface preparation.

B. Application of sheet waterproofing.

1.02 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Apply at substrate temperatures of 40ºF (4ºC) or above.

1.03 STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Store membrane on pallets and cover if left outside. Keep materials away from sparks and flames. Store where temperature will not exceed 90ºF (32ºC) for extended periods of time.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.02 MATERIALS

SPEC NOTE: SEALTIGHT MEL-DEK, is a roll-type waterproofing membrane composed of a nominally 53 mil thick layer of polymeric waterproofing membrane on a shrink-resistant, heavy-duty 12 mil thick, polypropylene woven carrier fabric which is laminated together to provide 65 mils total thickness.

SEALTIGHT MEL-DEK provides an excellent waterproofing membrane for bridges, parking decks or other vehicular traffic structures to be overlaid with an asphaltic concrete wearing course. MEL-DEK is ideal for repair, maintenance or new construction applications.

A. Waterproofing Membrane System: conforming to ASTM D 1682 tensile strength, ASTM E 154 puncture resistance, ASTM D 751 burst, ASTM D 146 pliability, roll-type membrane with a nominal 53 mil thick layer of polymeric waterproofing on a shrink-resistant, heavy-duty 12 mil thick, polypropylene woven carrier fabric. Both edges of the membrane to have exposed polymeric membrane protected with a 2 inch (50mm) pull-off release strip, SEALTIGHT MEL-DEK, as manufactured by W. R. MEADOWS, INC.

2.03 ACCESSORIES

A. Primer: SEALTIGHT MEL-PRIME [water-base primer] [solvent-base or solvent VOC primer], as manufactured by W. R. MEADOWS, INC.

B. Detail Strip: SEALTIGHT DETAIL STRIP, as manufactured by W. R. MEADOWS, INC.

C. Pointing Mastic: SEALTIGHT POINTING MASTIC, as manufactured by W. R. MEADOWS, INC.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Verify substrate surfaces are durable; free of matter detrimental to adhesion or application of waterproofing system.

B. Verify items which penetrate surfaces to receive waterproofing are securely installed.

3.02 SURFACE PREPARATION

A. Protect adjacent surfaces not designated to receive waterproofing.

B. Clean and prepare surfaces to receive waterproofing in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

C. Do not apply waterproofing to surfaces unacceptable to manufacturer.

D. Patch all holes and voids and smooth out any surface misalignments.

3.03 APPLICATION

A. Observe application information and precautions stated in manufacturer's literature.

B. Prime surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

C. Once positioned, immediately hand-rub MEL-DEK Membrane firmly to the surface and then pressure roll the complete surface to assure positive adhesion.

3.04 INSPECT AND REPAIR

A. Inspect and repair immediately before covering. Cover tears and inadequate overlays with MEL-DEK membrane and the patch edges sealed with POINTING MASTIC.
