WATERPROOFING PROTECTION

SEALTIGHT VIBRAFLEX Bridge Deck Protection Course is a multi-ply,
semi-rigid, asphaltic panel for use in protecting horizontal waterproofing
membranes from both dynamic and static loading on railway, mass
transit, airports, and other special projects. |

1.4 SUBMITTALS
- A. Comply with Section 01330 - Submittal Procedures.
B. Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
- A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's
original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying
product name and manufacturer.
B. Storage: Store materials in a clean dry area in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions. Keep materials stacked on pallets or on smooth surface
to prevent deformation.
C. Handling: Protect materials during handling and installation to prevent
damage.

2.2 MATERIALS
A. Waterproofing Protection Course: SEALTIGHT VIBRAFLEX
Bridge Deck Protection Course.
1. Description: Multi-ply, semi-rigid, asphaltic
panel composed of mineral-fortified asphaltic core between 1 liner
of asphalt-saturated felt and 1 layer of fiberglass. One liner is
weather-coated and has a polyethylene film facing.
2. Compliance: AREMA Chapter 29.
3. Thickness: [3/8 inch (10 mm)] [1/2 inch (13
mm)].
4. Panel Size: 4 feet x 8 feet (1.22 m x 2.44
m).
5. Color: Black.

3.1 EXAMINATION
- A. Examine surfaces to receive protection course.
Notify Architect if surfaces are not acceptable. Do not begin surface
preparation or installation until unacceptable conditions have been
corrected.
3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION
- A. Prepare surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions.
B. Ensure waterproofing membrane surface is free of sharp projections,
dirt, and dust.
3.3 INSTALLATION
- A. Install protection course in accordance with
manufacturer's instructions at locations indicated on the drawings.
B. Install protection course in 2 layers.

- C. Lay first layer directly on waterproofing membrane,
with each panel butted tightly to next.
D. Lay second layer with butt joints staggered on a half-panel module
to avoid coincidence with joints of first layer.
E. No adhesives are required when panels are installed in dual-layer
method.
F. Install longitudinal dimension of panels parallel to composite slabs
and structural members.
G. Do not install protection course over liquid waterproofing membranes
containing volatile solvents until solvents have evaporated.
3.4 PROTECTION
- A. Protect protection course where it will be left
exposed to sunlight with application of aluminum fibred roof coating.
